AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM THE HUDSON FAMILY OF BURNBRAE FARMS, Margaret Hudson, PresidentPresident's Blog
As everyone is aware, COVID-19 has had far reaching implications around the world and is impacting each and every Canadian town, city and province it touches. Our food supply plays a critical role for Canadians and this has never been more apparent than during a crisis like the one we are facing today. We at Burnbrae Farms take very seriously our role in maintaining the distribution of quality eggs to Canadian families.
Burnbrae Farms is the largest family owned and operated egg business in Canada, and we have a long history of supplying Canadians with safe, nutritious, affordable eggs and egg products and doing so in a socially responsible manner.
In response to COVID-19 we are working hard to ensure the health and safety of our employees, our customers, our consumers and our communities. Our strong hygiene and biosecurity programs that we follow for food safety, worker safety and hen welfare are our best defence as we do everything we can to combat the virus. We are reinforcing these programs with extra measures where appropriate during these extraordinary circumstances.
Today, our seven grading stations and three further processing facilities located in five provinces across the country are fully operational. In addition to our own farms, hundreds of farmers across Canada ship their eggs to us daily, ensuring a secure egg supply for our processing operations.
We have over 1500 dedicated colleagues across the country who continue to come to work each day and demonstrate their passion for ensuring that eggs continue to reach Canadian families. We are incredibly proud of our colleagues and would like to thank them for their dedication and effort during these trying circumstances. We want you to know that we are doing everything we can to keep the flow of nutritious eggs moving across this great country while we all work together to combat the crisis.
Finally, as a 6th generation Canadian family business, Burnbrae Farms and the Hudson family have been committed to farming and supporting Canadian communities for over 125 years. Today, that same commitment continues to guide all of our decisions. We will work to keep you informed during these difficult times and are here for you should you have any questions.
We are in this together and will stand united to help Canadians get through this.
Hot Food & Nutrition Trends for 2019
Attending trade shows, reading food industry blogs and talking to dietitians and fellow foodies provides me with a great overview of what’s coming up in terms of new ingredients, foods, flavours and wellness trends. These food trends feed into the never-ending innovation wheel at Burnbrae Farms. Whether we are developing new recipes or researching new product lines, we like to be forward-thinking. I thought it would be fun to share some of the trends that are predicted to be hot for 2019.
Five Easy Ways To Add Protein To Your Meal
As Canada’s Food Guide suggests, it’s important to ensure that you fill a quarter of your plate with protein at every meal. Many people hear the word ‘protein’ and immediately think of a nice juicy steak (yum). But that’s not the only way to fill your plate! Here are five protein-rich foods that I often put on my plate. These are all complete proteins, which means they carry all of the amino acids that your body requires for proper functioning.
