We’d like to introduce one of our sponsored athletes, Tim Nedow. Tim is a native of Brockville, Ontario and a long-time friend of the Hudson family. He attended Thousand Islands Secondary School in Brockville with William McFall, grandson of Burnbrae Farms Chairman Joe Hudson. In high school, Tim competed in shot put, triple jump, high jump, and played basketball alongside McFall.

Tim decided to focus on throwing events in his late teens, and earned an athletic scholarship to the University of Tulsa, and then transferred to DePaul University in Chicago after his first year. At DePaul, Tim set a number of conference records, winning Big East conference shot put titles both indoors and out. After finishing at DePaul, Tim became a professional track and field athlete specializing in shot put and discus throw. He currently is the 18th ranked shot put thrower in the world. At 6”7’ 295lbs, Tim is a commanding presence and has thrown a personal best of 20.98m in shot put and 60.48m in discus.

We recently caught up with Tim to hear about his upcoming meet schedule, how he’s been training, and his excitement for the upcoming Pan Am Games this August in Toronto.

Tim has been busy lately – he was in Hengelo, Netherlands, on May 24th for the AA Drink FBK Games, which is part of the IAAF World Challenge circuit. He won a bronze medal with a throw of 19.72m. Just two days later on May 26th, he threw 19.96m at the Ostrava Golden Spike in Ostrava, Czech Republic. This past week, he competed in a Diamond League meet in Rome and threw 20.15m.

"The World Challenge events are really big for me,” Tim said. “I get a chance to compete with some of the best throwers in the world – I’m going up against world champions and Olympic

For the remaining World Challenge meets, Tim's goal is clear: “I want to throw 21 metres. I’ve never done that before. I’ve come close with 20.98, so on this circuit I’m really looking to break 21 metres and to beat some big names”.

The IAAF circuit gives Tim a chance to compete against some of the best throwers in the world, but his two biggest meets are coming later on this summer: the Pan Am Games in Toronto on July 10-15th, and the IAAF World Championships in Beijing from August 22nd to August 30th. “These are the meets that I’m really looking to hit my peak condition for,” Tim said. “The Pan Am Games is a huge event, and it’s especially important because it’s a homecoming for me. All of my friends and family will be there to support me and I’m really excited for that”.

After the Pan Ams, he will be focused on the World Championships. "I’ve been throwing twice a day now to prepare for the World Championships in August,” Tim said. "At that meet, the qualifier is in the morning and the final is later at night, and so obviously I need to be able to throw well on both times and I’ve been training to prepare for that”.

We’re really excited to follow along with Tim’s progress over the course of the year, and are proud to call him one of our sponsored athletes. Burnbrae Farms is also a proud supporter of the Pan Am Games – in fact, we are supplying the entire Athlete's Village with shell and liquid eggs, so the athletes can be powered with the egg protein that they need to succeed.

The games start on Friday, July 10th with the official opening ceremony and close on Sunday July 26th. Shortly afterwards, the Parapan Am Games will start on August 7th, running through to August 15th. On Tuesday, July 21st at the Pan Am Games, come and watch Tim throw!
